The beds by the shed had to be uprooted and weeded so we could cover crop it to keep weeds from growing in it. This took me at least three days to finish all five beds. I had help from other interns as well. Let me tell you that pulling up broccoli, cauliflower and carrots is pretty tiring, especially broccoli. They have a semi-deep root system and smell like sulfur or farts when pulled up. After pulling out all the weeds and plants, I had to rake the soil to loosen it up, so when the cover crop seed was put on it, it would be easier to rake through to spread it. I go a nice blister from raking but I enjoyed the labor. For the cover crop we used half and half of clover and hairy veg. Soon enough we’ll be able to see the vegetation start growing.
