Today is my last day as a Howdy Farm intern. I am actually writing this from the front porch of the Farm's main building. Right now the weather is delightful, there is a slight breeze and the sun is shining. As a look to my left, I see the table full of all the lettuce varieties we harvested this week as well as this morning. On my right I see a couple enjoying lunch together on our picnic tables. Today has been a great day, and it was a perfect end to this internship. Praise Jesus for this opportunity to learn about plants and flowers the way I did during this whole semester! Corey really knows his stuff and would answer any ridiculous question I had. I think it took me a whole month just to learn the difference between each squash variety! He taught me all about the different varieties of each plant and how to grow things successfully. Before working on the farm, I had no idea how to successfully grow pumpkins or pretty much any other kind of squash, but now I could tell you which variety is which, and how to know when they are ready for harvesting. One of my favorite things about the farm was actually eating the food. Sometimes the produce was unfit for sale, but still fit for eating. These times Corey would let me take them home and I would get to cook and enjoy the produce! This semester I've had the chance to try butternut squash, spaghetti squash, serrano peppers, and Mandarin oranges! I loved eating things I saw being grown, and some that I had even harvested! I thoroughly enjoyed this internship, and can definitely see this type of work as a possible future career endeavor. I'm excited to see what God has in store for me! May God bless you all, and with that, goodbye from Bethany the Intern!
